The GDP of Ohio is the same as that of the entire Nigeria, and South Africa? Well, little old Maryland’s economy is equal to our country’s entire annual GDP… oh dear.

According to, the economies of California and Texas – the largest economies in the US – are about the same size as those of Brazil and Canada… the world’s 8th and 10th largest economies.

The map below shows you the rest, which is pretty impressive if you think of how large the US’ economy really is.

Interestingly, New York has the same GDP as Spain, but with substantially less people… so also Nigeria, which has the same as Ohio, but with 150 million people more.
