After eight months of hitchhiking from Africa to Hollywood, two cousins from Durban, Luke MacDonald and Jordan Deall (together with their cameraman, Donovan) set out to reach Ellen with the hopes of sitting on her couch and telling their story.

The ‘Hitched’ Series

Their story includes their amazing journey to the Congo. They filmed a documentary a couple of years ago where they set out to find out more about the legendary water-dwelling creature of the Congo River basin, Mokele-Mbembe.

The doccie was eventually called ‘Hitched’ and was reportedly picked up by Discovery Africa at the end of 2018. The journey saw them travel 15 000 km over 107 days and ten countries via 92 rides.

Now, they traveled 28 000 km to get to the Ellen Show and tell the talk show host about their documentary and incredible journey.

Getting to Ellen:

On Instagram, the ‘Hitched boys’ said that they ultimately traveled eight months and 235 days to get to Ellen.

After tagging her and updating their social media continuously, they eventually made it onto her show – but not necessarily onto her couch.

They said:

“We just want to start out with a massive thanks for all the help – all the sharing and tagging got us into the Ellen DeGeneres audience last week. It was amazing, we got to meet Ellen, she is a genuine boss and so full of love it’s truly challenging.

“As far as hitched is concerned the crazy thing is that Ellen knows ‘we’ exist and we got to leave the full story with the her team. That said we’ve pretty much taken the project as far as we can and it’s now up to them. Funnily enough our entire audience won return tickets for the ’12 day giveaway’ so we do actually have that potential return if we can make it.

“So all in all this is probably our last Ellen post, which suddenly feels quite nostalgic. It’s always sad ending a trip but at the same time we have a second season [of the Hicthed Series] under the belt, which is insane. We’ll be editing swiftly so we can show you asap.”
