Coffee is a beverage consumed by a large percentage of the global population. There has been research done indicating that coffee does affect health, both positively and negatively. As with most things, it is best to consume in moderation especially if milk and sugar are added.

Many people struggle to function properly before they have at least one cup of coffee in the morning, but what are the health benefits to doing this?

Coffee gives you energy

Since coffee does contain caffeine, which is a stimulant, it can provide you with some much-needed energy. This is why many people drink coffee first thing in the morning and some avoid drinking coffee before going to bed. The important thing is not to rely on coffee for its caffeine kick, but to rather eat a balanced diet throughout the day to keep energy levels up and constant.

Coffee has been shown to help with burning fat

There have been studies that prove coffee can help to increase your metabolic rate and also helps to increase the burning of fat. You will notice that most of the supplements geared towards fat burning all contain caffeine.

Coffee contains certain nutrients

The overall nutritional values in coffee depend on how you drink it. By adding milk and sugar you will be increasing the calorie content. Black coffee itself contains varying amounts of:

  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Manganese
  • Riboflavin
  • Niacin

More research most probably has to go into this, but some studies show that those who drink coffee are 25% up to 50% less likely to develop the condition. This when there is no added milk and sugar to the coffee.

Coffee is rich in antioxidants, which helps to get rid of free radicals. These free radicals can cause damage to molecules in the body. Overall, this may then improve health and reduce the risk of developing certain diseases.

Coffee also has possible beauty benefits

Not only are there benefits to drinking coffee, but you can also use it as a beauty treatment. Instead of throwing away the coffee grounds, rather reuse and recycle. Coffee grounds can easily be used as an exfoliant. On the face, they help to unclog pores and improve the condition of acne and the skin in general. A coffee scrub can be used to reduce the site of cellulite. The coffee can also help reduce redness and fine lines on the skin.

Here is a simple way to reduce dark circles under the eyes:

  • 1 teaspoon coffee grounds
  • olive oil
  • a few drops of water

Combine all of the above so that it forms a paste and then gently apply to the area under the eye. Leave this on and relax for about five minutes and then wipe off. You can repeat whenever you need to.

In conclusion, for many, coffee is a wonderful luxury and is simply a delicious beverage. The added benefits are just a bonus and a good reason to carry on enjoying a cup every day.
