The Men’s Foundation of South Africa is inviting the public to go commando for men’s health this November!

Focusing on men’s health this November

The Men’s Foundation of South Africa is inviting the public to partake in N.U.T’s (No Underwear Tuesday) on 30 November with Go Commando to raise awareness and funds for prostate and testicular cancer and men’s mental health issues including depression and suicide prevention.

Garron Gsell of the foundation says that this is the perfect opportunity to show your support as the Movember website indicated that they have made the difficult decision to no longer be running a Movember campaign in South Africa going forward.

Research and statistics

“Having launched and managed the Movember campaign since 2009, while appreciating that there are sometimes tough decisions that need to be made, the fact is that South African men are still dying too young from preventable causes,” Garron writes in an email campaign. “Research that we’ve been able to co-fund through The Cancer Alliance indicates that Prostate Cancer will become leading cancer in South Africa by 2023 with an expected 140% increase in incidents by 2030.

“Coupled with the high rate of suicide at the hands of South African men, we as the Men’s Foundation remain committed to continuing with our mandate of education and awareness, improving access to treatment and survivorship and research programs while advocating for cost-effective treatment through our membership with the Cancer Alliance.”

This is why they have launched their new campaign, Go Commando to address these challenges facing South African men’s health.

How to show your support

You can purchase your Go Commando sticker or face mask and wear it on Tuesday 30 November to show your support through your “lack of support” on the day.

Proceeds from the sales remain exclusively in South Africa and are invested in awareness, education, survivorship and research programmes.
