Harry Potter game: Leaked footage looks amazing [video]

The Harry Potter fandom is in a buzz after footage of an unannounced video game set in JK Rowling’s magical universe leaked online.

The quality of the graphics and gaming interface suggest the title is a role-playing game intended for release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The images are rumoured to be from a project tentatively entitled Harry Potter Magic Awakened. It seems players will create their own characters within the universe. The game is expected to be set many years before the events of the books and movies.

Poor quality video of the game leaked on the morning of Tuesday, 2 October 2018 but gamers were impressed by a visually impressive game that shone through a bad recording.

BBC media critic Lizo Mzimba claimed the title for the game had yet to be settled.

He tweeted: “Am told this is from a yet to be announced RPG currently titled Harry Potter Magic Awakened, although other titles including Magic Forever are also in the mix. Other Potter games are also thought to be on the way”

Warner Bros, who own the Harry Potter film and games licences, acted swiftly in having the video removed from YouTube. That’s led fans to believe there’s some credibility to all of this.

Reddit user VapeThisBro uploaded the video claiming he had been part of customer survey at a mall and had secretly filmed the game.

He describes the game as follows:

“Set in the 19th Century (1800’s) Wizarding World, this 3rd person open-world action RPG game centers around your character with unique abilities who has earned a late acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You are a newly arrived 5th year student to Hogwarts that demonstrates a latent gift for magic with a unique ability to track and identify remnants of a potent ancient power.

“Upon arrival, strange events begin to materialize In the Forbidden Forrest and trouble begins to brew within the castle walls. Together with Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey through both familiar and never before seen locations to bring to light the truth behind these mysterious occurrences.

“On your quest you will craft potions, master new spells, and discover fantastical beasts. You will battle Dark Wizards, Goblins, and other supernatural enemies and uncover the truth about your destiny – the Fate of the Wizarding World lies in your hands.”

The title is expected to be one of a number of planned Harry Potter games set for release in the near future. Pokemon Go developer Niantic are reportedly working on game that may make use of augmented reality.
