50 Shades of Grey? From chrome pout to Granny Glam
The colour grey is no longer limited to grannies. It’s taking the makeup and hair fashion scene by storm. Here’s how to wear it.

Beauty trends and looks are of course op of mind when it comes to a new year. And it took only ONE photo from one red carpet event to make grey lipstick the beauty must-have of the season, as reported by Premium Beauty News.

‘TIS THE GREY SEASON
When the models and stars step out in their Sunday best, everyone sit up and take note. So when model Gigi Hadid appeared on the red carpet at the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards in November sporting an unmissable matte grey lipstick, everyone wanted a pout like hers.
A TikTok trend was born and soon thereafter the colour grey could be seen everywhere.
It also didn’t stop with lipstick and makeup, the colour also spilled over to the hair fashion scene. In fact, the colour grey is gradually becoming the flagship colour of the season, and for all types of beauty looks.
JULIA FOX SLAYS IN GREY
Hadid isn’t the only celeb that’s crushing the grey look.
Julia Fox dropped jaws when she showed up with grey hair at the 2022 CFDA Awards. She wore her hair in a wet look and paired it with her still-bleached eyebrows, frosted eyeshadow and chrome jewellery. The overall look was futuristic – a big beauty trend that has sinced surfaced at multiple award shows red carpets.
“This is a love letter to getting older,” the 32-year-old said about the grey hair, which was sprayed on rather than a natural shade. “We’re embracing getting older,” she reportedly said as reported by Dazed Digital.
Her hair, referred to as “granny glam” was done by Matt Benns, while Julian Stoller was on make-up, as reported by Dazed Digital.
ANDIE MACDOWELL ROCKS EMBRACES GREY HAIR
Actress Andie MacDowell is known for rocking her natural grey hair. In fact, her hair is so healthy looking that many don’t believe it is natural.
Her voluminous brunette curls first caught the public’s eye in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. And although MacDowell kept her hair in tip-top colour over the years, it was during lockdown that she decided to ditch the dye.
“I think the age on my face, to me, in my personal opinion, no longer matched [my hair colour],” she told Vogue at the time. “I somehow feel like I look younger because it looks more natural. It’s not like I’m trying to hide something. I think that it’s a power move…”
Since then she’s showed off her grey locks at numerous events, and we’re here for it.
