A woman’s hair is her crowning glory, or so they say. Which is why hair loss like alopecia for leading ladies like Jada Pinkett Smith is a sore and sensitive point.

The actress was embarrassed by Oscars host Chris Rock on Sunday night after he commented on her bald head. But the star’s shaven look had nothing to do with a so-called GI Jane remake – or even a fashion statement.

In January, Jada inspired her Instagram followers after she revealed she was trying to “be friends” with alopecia.

But Jada isn’t the only female to suffer from the condition which causes bald spots.
