So New Year’s Eve is coming up and with it, the usual assortment of booze and parties that tend to leave one feeling all sorts of drained. Not only do the New Year’s Eve celebrations leave one exhausted, but they also come with a massive hangover.

Luckily for you, there are ways to make sure you stay hangover-free after your celebrations.

Beat the hangover: Drink water

While you should be getting in your eight glasses of H2O every day, when drinking alcohol, it’s even more important. When one drinks booze, they find themselves heading to the bathroom more often than usual.

This is because alcohol is a diuretic. Because of this, one loses a lot of water and may become dehydrated while drinking. According to IOL, dehydration often accompanies a headache, the feeling of fatigue, and an overly dry mouth.

Don’t mix your drinks

If you’ve ever done it, then you know mixing alcohol is a recipe for disaster. Choosing one kind of alcoholic drink that you will be sipping on for the rest of the night will save you from becoming overly wasted.

This also means that you will head to bed feeling good and ready to wake up in the morning.

Line your tummy

Drinking on an empty tummy is just as bad as mixing your drinks. To make sure you’re good to go, have a meal before starting with your drinking celebrations.

“When you drink alcohol on an empty stomach, it just passes the alcohol right to your intestines and then it’s absorbed into the bloodstream very quickly,” explains Robert Swift, MD, associate director of the Brown University Centre for Alcohol and Addiction Studies.
