Game of Thrones South Africa: Who’s who?
Find out who our main characters would be for Game of Thrones, Mzanzi edition.
As you know the very popular series, Game of Thrones is a politically intrigued series featuring different family houses of Westeros. Fans all over the world are completely fascinated by this show and are very curious to know who will eventually be the rightful ruler on the Iron Throne.
In South Africa, we also have a range of characters playing in their very own ‘Game of Thrones’ political war to see who will take over as ruler of the land. Here’s our main players:
President Jacob Zuma – King of the Iron Throne seated in Nkandla – House Baratheon
The ruler of the Iron Throne is regarded as the ruler of the entire land of the Seven Kingdoms.
The Guptas – House Lannister
House Lannister goes to the Gupta family. The Lannisters are the richest in all of the Seven Kingdoms with this family owning many of the gold mines across the continent.
Mmusi Maimane – House Stark
House Stark is known for its honorable devotion to duty. It only seemed appropriate to give the title as ‘Lord of Winterfell’ to Democratic Alliance leader, Mmusi Maimane.
Kenny Kunene – House Tyrell
House Tyrell, one of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms. They own the biggest share of crops in all of Westeros, thanks to their fertile and rich farmlands. Only fitting for South African businessman Kenny to be head of this house. Just like Lord Loras of House Tyrell said: “Aren’t you jealous how rich we are?”
Thuli Madonsela – House Targaryen
Who doesn’t love “the dragon queen” or more ‘commonly’ known as “Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons?” Everybody that’s who. She has a strong moral compass, but knows how to deal with her enemies. Just like, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.
Julius Malema as the High Sparrow
The High Sparrow is a major character in Game of Thrones. The High Sparrow is the leader of a religious group known as the Sparrows and the newly appointed High Septon, though he currently truly rules King’s Landing, having gained a large military following and having the ability to manipulate the young and impressionable King Tommen Baratheon. Malema’s political part, the Economic Freedom Fighters was founded only three years ago and is a radical and militant economic emancipation movement. If the shoe fits I suppose…?
