Game of Thrones Season 8: Premiere Date

Game of Thrones fans will have to wait a little bit longer until the highly-anticipated series hits screens for the last time.

HBO revealed in the trailer released on Tuesday (that clocked in over 7 million views) that Game of Thrones’ Season 8 will return and premiere in April 2019.

Game of Thrones Season 8: Episodes List

It has been revealed that the last season of Game of Thrones will consist of only six episodes. But, the good news is, each episode can be set to run for more than 80 minutes.

Variety reports that: “When you think about it, up until last season we’d have six months to do ten episodes,” said Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos. “So we’re [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes.”

That could extend to even feature-length episodes at 80 minutes or even longer. “Two hours per episode seems like it would be excessive, but it’s a great show, so who knows?” HBO’s Casey Bloys said.

Game of Thrones Season 8: What to expect

So far details about Game of Thrones’ final season has been kept tightly under wraps. But, it seems executive producer and writer Bryan Cogman has teased the overall theme of the eighth season:

“It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death,” Cogman told EW. “It’s an incredibly emotional, haunting, bittersweet final season and I think it honours very much what [author George R.R. Martin] set out to do – which is flipping this kind of story on its head.”

Speculations:

Season 8 is possibly set to start at with Daenerys’ army making their way to Winterfell where Sansa Stark is presiding as its leader.

Jon Snow will maybe find out who his real parents are. As for Arya Stark…she still has six names left on her kill list which includes the Hound, the Mountain, and Melisandre.

Possible prequels:

Earlier this year, HBO confirmed reports that a prequel for the series has been ordered.

HBO has ordered a pilot episode for the prequel, which will be set thousands of years before the battles over the Iron Throne. The as yet untitled prequel was created by British screenwriter Jane Goldman with author George R.R. Martin.

However, the show will not be broadcast until after Game of Thrones’ final season.

HBO said in a statement that if picked up, the prequel will chronicle “the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

“From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”
