This dish is a crowd pleaser, and feeds an army. My neighbour on the farm makes this dish regularly and it has become one of my families favourites.

The combination of flavours just marries in the oven to elevate this casserole dish to the next level.

Serve it with rice, fresh coriander and garden salad.

  • 2 kg chicken pieces

  • 30 ml vegetable oil

  • 15 ml butter

  • 2 onions sliced

  • 1 red pepper, thinly sliced

  • 1 yellow pepepr, thinly sliced

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • salt

  • 175 ml tomato sauce

  • 15 ml Worcester sauce

  • 50 ml chutney

  • 80 ml sweet chilli sauce (optional but recommended)


  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  • Place the chicken pieces in an oven proof casserole dish. Salt to taste and set aside.
  • In a sauce pan, heat the oil and butter.
  • Saute the onions, garlic and peppers until soft.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients.
  • Simmer for five minutes
  • Remove from the heat and pour over the chicken pieces
  • Bake, uncovered, for one hour.


  • Serve with rice, fresh coriander and garden salad.
