It is also much healthier as there are no additional flavourings and colourants added. The taco spice will transform chicken, beef or seafood to a taste sensation as it injects the meat with a burst of flavour.

Whip together any indulgent Mexican dish by starting off with a taco, tortilla or nachos chips. Layer it with your choice of meat, toppings and salsa. Then serve it with a portion of refried beans and sour cream on top and you are in for a real treat.

  • Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons chilli powder

  • 1 tablespoon cumin

  • 1 tablespoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon oregano

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • Taco filling
  • 500 grams beef mince (or you can use chicken breasts)

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning mix

  • 1 tin tomato paste

  • ½ cup tomato sauce

  • 1 can corn, whole kernels

  • fresh coriander to garnish

  • Refried beans
  • 1 can black beans or pinto beans

  • 1 garlic finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon oil

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • juice of 1 lime


  • Seasoning
  • Combine all the ingredients and store them in a jar.
  • Tacos filling
  • Fry the onion and the garlic until soft. 
  • Add mince and cook till brown. 
  • Add a tablespoon of taco seasoning and combine.
  • Add tomato paste and tomato sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add corn and cook for a further five minutes.
  • Layer your taco with a scoop of meat filling, fresh lettuce and grated cheese on top. Serve with re-fried beans, sour cream and tomato salsa.
  • Refried beans
  • To make the refried beans, heat garlic in a pan with oil. Add the tin of beans and cumin and cook for five minutes.
  • Mash with potato masher or fork until soft. Squeeze lime juice over. Serve with tacos.
