There’s so much sport going on and we love inviting our friends over to watch with us, don’t we. There’s on snack you need on the table for these big events and it’s some sticky air fryer chicken wings. Usually, you’d need hours to prepare but with an air fryer, you’ll have a bunch of wings ready in just 20 minutes. This means that you can keep the snacks coming as the game goes on without any real effort and you’ll have beautifully tender chicken with crispy skin every time they come out of the fryer. The recipe comes from the Instant Pot South Africa team.

Sticky air fryer chicken wings tips

If you have some time in the morning, marinade the chicken and let them sit in the fridge until about an hour before you want to serve them. Then fry them when they’re at room temperature. You can play around with the flavours too by adding some hot sauce or BBQ sauce with about 10 minutes to go so that it doesn’t burn or soften the crispy skin. You can also leave the spicy flavours for the dipping sauce. You can also serve with cream cheese or blue cheese sauce of course!

Ingredients

  • 1 kg 1 chicken wings

  • ¼ cup ¼ low sodium soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp 2 honey

  • 2 tbsp 2 lime juice

  • 1 tbsp 1 olive oil

  • 1 tbsp 1 sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp 1 onion powder

  • 3 cloves 3 garlic, crushed

  • 1 tsp 1 grated ginger

  • zest of 1 lime

  • 1 tsp 1 corn flour

  • To serve
  • toasted sesame seeds

Method

  • Combine the marinade ingredients, except corn flour and toss the chicken wings through the mix. Allow to stand for 10 minutes as you preheat the air fryer to 180°C for 5 minutes.
  • Turn on the Vortex ClearCook (or your own) air fryer, setting to Air Fry at 180°C and 15 minutes.
  • Once the pre-heat is complete, add the marinaded chicken wings to the drawer in a single layer, cooking in batches if necessary. Turn the chicken wings halfway through.
  • For the sauce
  • While the wings cook, add the leftover marinade to a small pot and bring to a gentle simmer, combining 1 tablespoon marinade with 1 tsp corn flour and adding the mixture back to the pot.
  • Stir continuously for about 30 seconds and allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
  • Once the chicken wings are cooked, place into a serving dish and pour over the sticky glaze or use as a dipping sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
