If you have never had some steamed bread with a rich, aromatic stew, you are really missing out. This traditional South African bread is an incredibly delicious side dish to enjoy with a variety of dishes.

Steamed bread is perfect to enjoy with potjiekos, lamb stew or even a curry. The saucier the stew, the better as this tasty bread is best when dipped in the rich gravy soaking up all the goodness.

However, steamed bread is also delicious when warm and freshly baked. Simply slather a thick layer of butter and jam and cheese if you like some additional toppings.

The beauty of steamed bread is that the bread is steamed until it is thoroughly cooked. With a few simple ingredients, you can prepare this South African speciality without an oven. All you need is a pot of boiling water with the dough in a plastic bag or metal bowl.

Enjoy this South African favourite.
