There are so my styles of bread out there and cultures all around the globe started their own independently from each other. One of South Africa’s own styles is a traditional steamed bread.
This super simple bread recipe is light and fluffy, perfect for soups and stews as it is very light and absorbs loads of liquid to make every bite the perfect one.
We want to celebrate South African food and creators on our recipe page, just like this one from @plated_by_palesa on TikTok
@plated_by_palesa Steamed Bread Recipe 5 cups of flour and 1 extra cup for kneading 1/2 cup of sugar 1 tbspn salt 1 packet of yeast 1 1/2 cup of water (more or less) Oil In a bowl, add flour, sugar, salt and yeast and mix well. Gradually add water while mixing dough until you get a sticky consistency. At this point you can add a little bit of oil and knead dough until it doesn’t stick to your fingers. Cover bowl with cling wrap and cloth and leave in a warm place to rise for 1 hour. After an hour punch down dough to release some air. Place in small ramekins, muffin tray or bing bowl and cover and let rise for 30 minutes. In a pot add some water(shouldn’t cover the dish you have you dough in) once the water is boiling, add your tray and cover and let cook for 30-40 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean. #platedbypalesa #fypシ #fyp #southafricantiktok #safoodinfluencers #MzansiFoodie #southafricanfoodtok #steamedbread #steamedbreadrecipe #ujeqe #ujeqe_ohambayo😂😂 #dombolo #dombolorecipe #idombolo #dumpling #tiktokmzansi🇿🇦 ♬ Ulithemba Lam – Brazo Wa Afrika & Da Capo's Deeper Mix – Dj Phat Cat
