Everybody should have a signature sauce and South Africa’s might just be monkey gland sauce. It’s a local version of BBQ sauce that’s a little bit sweet, a bit tangy and gives a bit of a kick at the end. It has many personal versions and the recipe below is the most common homemade version.
With the only preparation being onions and a whole range of sauces, you’ve got a tasty condiment on the way that’s perfect for chips, burgers and even steak marinade. Don’t worry, no monkeys were used in this recipe or any other monkey gland recipe.
