It’s officially the first day of winter in South Africa and even though the sun is shining, it’s brisk outside and you just want to stay under the covers. There are only two things you need on a cold winter’s day and it’s your favourite movie and a scorching cup of real homemade hot chocolate. Store-bought can often be too light and lack the richness and is mostly just sweet. This recipe increases the richness of real chocolate and adds sweetness with marshmallows.

Real homemade hot chocolate

The best drinks and meals need the best ingredients, so you should have some high-quality dark chocolate on hand for this recipe that isn’t overly sweetened. Grate some more chocolate to garnish instead of using cocoa powder. Colourful marshmallows make the drink look even better and it will taste incredible with each sip. If you want to add some festive flavour, add a cinnamon stick or some grated cinnamon on top.
