Milk tart and chocolate treats: Dessert grandma will be proud of

Sunday lunch will never be the same again. These milk tart and chocolate treats are going to make grandma proud and become the new family favourite.

Milk Tart Wheels

We love traditional recipes, especially when it comes to dessert. Melktert is a very well known South African dessert that almost everybody learns to make from their grandmother. We also enjoy putting a delicious spin on these traditional recipes and our milk tart and chocolate treats are no different. Our recipe includes a tasty custard filling, cinnamon and we decided to give it a chocolate crown.

Milk tart and chocolate treats tips

You want to temper your egg mixture for the custard to prevent lumps and scrambling. Pour a little bit of the hot milk and butter mixture into the eggs (a few tablespoons) so that the eggs can mix and even out the temperature. The chocolate topping adds even more to the flavour and you can easily top it with a strawberry. They’re also best enjoyed with a warm cup of tea or coffee.
