You have probably had traditional naan bread, but have you ever thought about trying mushroom naan? It’s easy and delicious to make.

No Indian dish is really complete without some additional naan on the side. So if you love your naan bread just like we do make sure to try this mushroom naan recipe.

We use any excuse to try any recipe with mushroom and this is one that really stands out as a winner. the mushroom flavour really comes out in this mushroom naan and accompanies any Rogan josh or butter chicken perfectly.

If you make a little extra to keep, these can be frozen and simply defrosted again at a later stage when you need them. Though, we’ll admit, they are much nicer when made fresh.

Ingredients

  • 15 ml 15 red wine vinegar

  • 5 ml 5 sugar

  • 1 red onion, sliced

  • 2 readymade naan breads

  • 10 ml 10 olive oil

  • Salt & milled black pepper

  • 15 ml 15 oil

  • 10 ml 10 ginger, finely grated

  • 5 ml 5 garlic, crushed

  • 250 g 250 button mushrooms, thickly sliced

  • 30 ml 30 tandoori curry paste

  • 100 ml 100 smooth cream cheese

  • 15 ml 15 white and/or black toasted sesame seeds

  • a few fresh coriander leaves

  • some lime wedges

Method

  • Place the vinegar, sugar and onion slices in a non-metallic bowl. Stir to combine and set aside for 20 minutes
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place the naan breads on a baking sheet, brush with oil and season with salt and pepper. Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes.
  • Meanwhile heat the balance of the oil in a pan and gently fry the ginger and garlic for 1-2 minutes. Add the mushrooms and fry for 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir in the tandoori curry paste and cook for 1 minute.
  • To assemble, spread the cream cheese over the warm naan bases. Drain the onions and scatter over the naans. Top with the mushrooms, sesame seeds and fresh coriander.
  • Serve with fresh lime wedges.
