They are super versatile and you can have them with a spread of butter and cheese, like burger buns and much more. Our dinner-inspired homemade fresh bread rolls will get you on the right track. They are airy and tender on the inside with a nice crust which provides a great crunch for everybody to enjoy.

This is a guideline for mixing the dough by hand. If you’re using a stand mixer, add all ingredients into your mixing bowl with the dough attachment and mix slowly until you see all the ingredients are combined. This prevents all the flour from making a mess. If you’re making burger rolls instead of your everyday dinner roll, just make them a bit wider before letting them rise.

Delightful mini bread rolls recipe.

Ingredients

  • 450 grams 450 all-purpose flour

  • 7 ml 7 salt

  • 5 ml 5 sugar

  • 5 grams 5 instant yeast

  • 10 grams 10 butter

  • 250 ml 250 lukewarm water

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • In a mixing bowl combine flour, sugar and salt and add the instant yeast and stir with a whisk until combined.
  • Rub the butter into the flour and slowly add the water to form a soft dough. Knead well for approximately 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
    Note: This is a guideline for mixing the dough by hand. If you’re using a stand mixer, add all ingredients into your mixing bowl with the dough attachment and mix slowly until you see all the ingredients are combined. This prevents all the flour from making a mess. Once combined, it is safe to put it on high.
  • Once all the ingredients have come together to form a dough, put your machine on high and allow to knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Put the dough in an oiled bowl and cover. Allow rising for 20 minutes.
  • Flour your work surface and knock the dough down. Portion into 16 equal parts and gently roll into round balls.
  • Place on an oiled baking sheet and oil the top of the rolls. Allow rising for another 40 minutes until they have doubled in size.
  • Brush the top of the rolls with egg and milk.
  • Bake rolls for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
