Pasta is so iconic around the world thanks to Italy with all of their classic dishes, but you can always play around with ingredients and flavours. We all enjoy a creamy pasta as it’s often more simple to make and beautifully luxurious. Not only will this creamy bacon and mushroom pasta be perfect for the whole family, it’s a great date night meal too. This recipe is quick to put together and it’s plated as if you’re in a restaurant, so you can impress your guest(s).

Creamy bacon and mushroom pasta tips

This recipe for this creamy pasta dish calls for fresh cream instead of a béchamel sauce. While a béchamel sauce is absolutely delicious, the cream in this meal makes the pasta lighter and adds a luxurious silky texture to the dish without the added carbs of flour from a white sauce. When you combine the pasta and sauce in the pan, add some butter to emulsify the sauce so that it sticks to the pasta and becomes beautifully glossy. Again, this final step is best done in front of your date as it looks like you’re a pro chef.

After a hard day’s work reward yourself with this luscious creamy pasta dish for a well-deserved treat. This recipe will take care of dinner.

Ingredients

  • 500 g 500 spaghetti

  • 150 g 150 button mushrooms, quartered

  • 250 g 250 shoulder bacon

  • 1 1 onion, diced

  • 3 cloves 3 garlic, chopped

  • 500 ml 500 cream

  • chives, chopped

  • salt (to taste)

  • pepper (to taste)

Method

  • Cook the spaghetti in boiling water as per the packet’s instructions.
  • In a separate pan, fry the bacon until cooked and remove from the pan, add the onions in the bacon fat and saute until translucent.
  • Add the mushrooms to the onions until cooked.
  • Slice the bacon into strips and add to the onion mixture. Add the bacon and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Pour the cream into the pan and allow to cook through for 3 minutes, season with salt and pepper.
  • Mix the bacon and cream mixture into the spaghetti until all the pasta is evenly coated in the sauce. You can finish it off with a knob of butter.
  • Serve with freshly chopped chives.
