There are some real classic starter dishes you see on most South African steakhouse restaurant menus. Crumbed or battered mushrooms are just so crunchy and heartwarming every time you have them. However, this isn’t your local Spur recipe but one you can make on your own. The rugby season is in full swing, so you need snacks to keep the family and friends fed while they have drinks and shout at the screen. Keep them happy with some crunchy crumbed mushrooms.

Suggestions for crunchy crumbed mushrooms

If you want to add more flavour to your batter, you can do what you’d like. We suggest a bit of paprika to the flour mixture for a light kick. The mushrooms will cook perfectly but be aware that they are incredibly hot when you bite into them. Make a dipping sauce like blue cheese or mayonnaise and some chives. Be mindful to make enough for a big crowd because they will disappear in no time at all.
