Chocolate peanut butter cups: The nutty sweet treat that keeps on giving

Everybody loves chocolate and it’s a favourite around the world. However, did you know that peanut butter and chocolate are a match made in heaven? In America, chocolate peanut butter cups are a regular treat but you can also make them at home. They are a rich and sweet treat that will always make you smile.

Making chocolate peanut butter cups

This is where things get creative. You can use any chocolate you want and if you like dark chocolate, remember that it can be overwhelming and melts differently. The added sugar in the peanut butter mixture will help sweeten the richness if dark chocolate is used. You can also choose between chunky or smooth peanut butter. Warming up the peanut butter will help scooping. Add some crushed nuts on top if you’re feeling creative.

So many things are better when made at home. Chocolate peanut butter cups are no different and they are the tasty gifts that keep on giving.

Ingredients

• 3 tbsp icing sugar, sifted

• ½ cup smooth peanut butter

• 1 tsp vanilla essence

• 90 g chocolate of your choice, melted (1 slab)

Method

• Prepare a muffin tray with cupcake liners.
• Stir peanut butter, vanilla essence and powdered sugar together until smooth.
• Melt the chocolate in the microwave at 30-second intervals.
• Spread one tablespoon of chocolate in the bottom of each cupcake liner, and swirl around to cover the sides.
• Put the tray in the fridge/freezer to allow the chocolate to set.
• Once the chocolate has set, spread a spoon of the peanut butter mixture on top of the chocolate.
• Return to the fridge for another 15 minutes for the peanut butter mixture to set.
• Drizzle the top with the rest of the melted chocolate and smooth with a spoon.
• Refrigerate until the chocolate has hardened.
• Remove peanut butter cups from the liners and enjoy!
