I love caramel popcorn, well anything to do with caramel actually. Making your own at home is not only cheaper but its tastes so much better. Just a warning, once you start you won’t be able to stop.

This recipe only needs four ingredients and is quick and easy to make. You can even get the kids to help you!

Whip up a sweet treat in minutes with this easy caramel popcorn recipe.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups of popcorn, already popped

  • 1/2 cup of butter or margarine

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1/4 cup of golden syrup

  • 1/2 teaspoon of bicarb

  • 5 ml vanilla essence

  • pinch of salt

Method

  • Make popcorn according to package instructions. You can microwave popcorn or make your own in a pot. Season the popcorn with a bit of salt. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over a low heat.
  • Add sugar and syrup and stir continuously until all the sugar has dissolved (approximately 5 – 10 minutes).
  • Add vanilla essence and bicarb and stir. Quickly pour caramel mixture over your popcorn. Mix well using a plastic spatula or spoon.
  • Allow to cool and enjoy.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, you can bake the caramel popcorn in the oven for 30 minutes.
