If you have ever enjoyed a bite of braai snoek, you will know that this is one of the best fish dishes you can enjoy on the braai. Whenever you can lay your hands on fresh snoek, bring out this simple recipe. Your taste buds will thank you!

With simple lemon butter and herb basting, this appetising braai snoek is the ultimate weekend treat for your family and friends. Preparing the snoek takes only about 10 minutes and then when your coals are ready, you only need to braai each side of the snoek for about 15 to 20 minutes.

The lemon butter basting brings a delicious zest to the party. After each bite, you are tempted to lick off your fingers to savour the incredible taste. Prepare your braai snoek with any starch of your preference. However, if you are in Cape Town, you will know that sweet potato pairs perfectly with snoek.

Ingredients

  • 1 1 fresh snoek

  • 1 teaspoon 1 salt and pepper

  • 100 ml 100 butter, melted

  • 1 1 lemon

  • 20 ml 20 dried herbs

Method

  • Melt the butter and add the dried herbs, salt and pepper and squeeze half of the lemon into the mixture.
  • Baste the Snoek with the melted butter mixture until evenly coated.
  • Slice half of the lemon and place it onto the Snoek.
  • Place the Snoek on the braai stand and braai over slow coals on each side for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Serve with any preferred starch.
