Green has been the colour of winning for a long time now. It’s also the colour of freshness and of course well-being. It’s also one of the most important colours for South Africans. During a South African summer, you will see loads of different shades of green in nature and of course, our sports teams. Here is a gin drink that you can enjoy while watching your favourite team and of course, having a relaxing moment in nature. The Green Monk Fizz cocktail is green and tastes like liquid gold.

The main ingredient in the Green Monk Fizz cocktail is the Double Gold award-winning MONKS Mary Jane gin. It’s infused with hemp, which in many cultures is widely used for medicinal purposes. It is also the first hemp-infused gin in South Africa. Perfect for those that have a more savoury palate, the Green Monk Fizz is certainly a cocktail to indulge in. Use simple syrup to sweeten the drink.

Simple syrup is equal parts water and brown sugar and you bring it up to a boil before lowering the heat to a simmer for 10-15 minutes. When all of the sugar is dissolved, let it cool and pour it into a glass bottle. This syrup can be used in almost any cocktail and lasts for a month in the fridge. The recipe prep time below includes the simple syrup making process.

Grab a seat and watch the iconic South African sunset while sipping on this tasty drink with lots of ice and a garnish of basil. Mix, pour, sip, reflect and enjoy!
