The FNB Run Your City Series has extended its African footprint with the introduction of the Maputo 10K CityRun that will take place on Maputo City Day, Sunday, 10 November 2019.

The race will start at the municipality building at 07:30 in Katembe and end at Maputo’s municipality headquarters. The CityRun will offer participants a unique opportunity to cross the Maputo-Katembe bridge on foot.

FNB’s CityRun to take place along historic routes

It should attract several elite international and Mozambican athletes and lovers of the sport of road running in general. As with its sister events in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, the race route is designed to take participants along the historic and iconic routes around each city.

This adds a touristy element, making it more than a race but an economic opportunity for every community it passes through. With a 10km flat course, the race will offer runners the opportunity to enjoy the landscape of Maputo, passing by the iconic Tunduru Botanical Gardens, before the finish at Independence Square.

Maputo councillors hope the city will gain from the event

Maputo city councillors believe that this event will hugely benefit the region, putting it on the circuit of cities with regular international events. FNB Mozambique – as a sponsor, in partnership with Maputo City Council and Stillwater Sports – is guaranteeing technical organisation and logistical support.

The Maputo event follows in the footsteps of the current events in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
