Five dishes everyone should kn

In his most recent Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’, Gordon Ramsay answered quite a few questions from users, including one that might be useful for those who don’t know how to make anything in the kitchen.

The question, asked by Reddit user Totoist, was:

“In your opinion, what are 5 dishes that everyone needs to know how to cook?”

Here’s what the world-famous chef and host answered:

    1. Burgers

Well, obviously. There’s no denying it: Burgers are a classic dish! Ramsay wrote: “You get that really smart blend. Burger would be number one. Everyone enjoys a great burger, so that’s really important.”

2. Breakfast

Dish number two is a really good breakfast – because who in their right mind doesn’t like a yummy breakfast? Ramsay did mention that it should be something healthy though. “Whether it’s poached eggs, smashed avocado, or an amazing omelette. Now that is crucial!”

3. Something braised

“Number three would be a braising dish,” says Ramsay. “Like a braised short rib because it’s the kind of thing you can cook on a Monday and still eat on Friday.”

So, basically any meat that benefit from a seared exterior and a thick, rich, glistening sauce that has been building all day….yum.

4. Something Healthy

Then from a healthy point of view, Ramsay says a chicken dish, in terms of a white protein, would be a go-to favorite. “Whether it’s a sauteed chicken or even a delicious marinade with chicken Caesar salad.”

5. ‘Let them eat CAKE!’

Finally, you have to know how to bake a cake, or basically, be able to make a dessert, says Ramsay.

He says taking amazing deserts, as a gift, to somebody and eating it with them is so much more enjoyable then buying them a scarf, or a jumper, or a pair of socks.

“It could be a Blondie or a Chocolate Brownie, something you can give as a gift. Spending three or four hours making this thing, and spending hundreds of dollars on ingredients, and doing something magical, is far more exciting then buying a f*cking jumper that you know they aren’t going to wear!”
