Tweeps have blamed Brazil’s defeat by Croatia in the World Cup quarter-finals on a team official’s mistreatment of a cat during a press conference.

Brazil’s early exit from the Fifa World Cup has been blamed on a team official’s mistreatment of an animal ahead of their match against Croatia on Friday night.

The football favourites lost out to the European country in the quarter-finals stage of the competition.

But according to animal activists, this was “karma” for what happened just 48 hours earlier.

BRAZIL MEDIA OFFICER TOSSES CAT

On Wednesday – two days before Brazil’s defeat by Croatia, the team took part in a press conference in Qatar in preparation for the match.

But instead of what any player had to say, all eyes were fixed on team media officer whose encounter with a stray cat went viral.

In a clip shared on Twitter, the media officer is seen picking up the grey cat off a desk and flinging it onto the floor.

The moment was caught on camera by photographers and journalists on hand to brief Brazil player Vinicius Jr.

Following the viral moment, football fans and animal activists share their horror on Twitter. And many believed the cruel act had something to do with Brazil’s loss against Croatia.
