Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham has adopted a more relaxed attitude and feel to her latest “seasonless” collection, drawing her inspiration from the lockdown fashion trend of “comfort over glamour”.

VICTORIA BECKHAM’S TAKE ON PANDEMIC FASHION

The traditional Autumn/Winter 2021 in the fashion world has largely been replaced by a more seasonless approach due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Beckham has also done things differently this year. Instead of pre- and main collections, she has presented just one hybrid collection with a focused edit.

“While I want to acknowledge the circumstances  we’re in, I didn’t want it to dictate what we created. It is something different, something that feels right for now, captured in a space I love,” said Beckham in a personal statement via her Instagram account.

SOFT JERSEY AND GEORGETTE

Soft jersey and georgette in denim and dresses are the focal point of Beckham’s latest collection.

These pieces can be worn at home or dressed up with corset belts for when to be worn out. She displayed “toughness” through the collection with trenches and overcoats with military detailing. According to her, knitwear has been one of the bestsellers since lockdowns have been implemented across the world.

“It has always been my ethos that I want women to get wear out of my clothes. If we all came out of lockdown focused on buying stuff we want to wear for years, that would be a great outcome for the environment – although don’t get me wrong, I still want women to buy my stuff,” said Beckham to The Guardian.

A LOOK AT THE COLLECTION

Beckham chose not to participate in this year’s digital-only London Fashion Week that concluded on Tuesday 23 February but instead showcased her collection “through her eyes” on Instagram.

Beckham lives in Miami where ther soccer star husband David Beckham’s own soccer team, Inter Miami, is based.

“Instead of a traditional show or presentation, I wanted to show you the collection through the eyes of myself and the team as we brought it together to life,” said Beckham on Instagram.

OPTIMISTIC BUT REALISTIC

Posh Spice is optimistic but realistic about post-pandemic fashion for this year’s seasonless fashion looks.

“These are seasonless pieces that are rooted in reality,” said Beckham to The Guardian.

“Since we don’t know when we will get out of lockdown. Some people’s toes curl at the mention of commerciality, but I love wearability, so long as it has that sparkle of fashion,” she added.

Beckham’s 12-year-old label, like many other fashion houses, has been financially affected by the pandemic.

“There’s no doubt that COVID has affected my business – I’m not alone in that. But we are addressing the situation head on and we’ve had a good start to this year,” said Beckham to The Guardian.
