Every month or so, a new trend goes viral on social media. This is because people across the world are always looking for ways to either make life more easier or interesting. When it comes to beauty hacks – especially ones that are cost-effective and easy to achieve – people will eat just about anything up.

The latest trend to take TikTok by storm is influencers who are encouraging their followers to use food colouring products to stain their lips and get a longer and deeper colouring than what traditional lipstick provides.

Using food colouring as lipstick: Influencers’ latest gift to beauty trends

Many beauty trends have hit social media over the years.

While some have proven themselves truly valuable, others were quick to disappear after they were discarded by those who tried them and found them either too bizarre or not worth the effort.

Another beauty trend that has hit the world wide web is one that influencers seemingly love.

Various TikTok clips show the influencers put various colours on their lips in an effort to stain them.

“This literally just feels like a normal lip stain. I’m not even kidding,” popular TikTok creator Kirsty Belle told her 1.1 million viewers as she tried the food dye.

Is it safe though?

According to a New York Post article, long-term usage may stain your flesh.

While it may go away after a few days, it’s probably not best to stick with the food colouring trend for prolonged periods of time.

While the dye may be safe for consumption it isn’t exactly made for your skin – especially the sensitive skin on your lips and mouth.
