The season 2 premiere of the hotly anticipated Kings of Joburg was one for the books as it seems EVERYONE — from fans of the popular telenovela to Mzansi’s celebrities stepped out in their finest threads for the big day.
Almost all the red carpet looks were one for the books, something that Mzansi hardly ever sees for an event of this nature and tweeps never miss a chance to drag those who were the “worse-dressed”. The event was held at The Zone in Rosebank on

The entrances that left everyone gasping for air was that of Zolisa Xaluva (who plays Mo in the series) and Connie Ferguson, who is the producer and a mermaid on the show…or so we think!
The pair was escorted by members of the Crusaders motorbike club at The Zone in Rosebank. According to The Citizen, Connie and Zolisa both addressed the excited crowd with some ululating.
“[Connie] spoke about how much the season meant to her and shared her excitement about the show’s impending launch. [Zolisa] also shared a brief message illustrating just how excited he was that the big day was finally here,” the publication reported.

“It has been a long time coming for us. We’ve sweated bullets over recreating this show because Samaad will tell you, Sho [connie’s late husband Shona Ferguson] was still a big part of season two and where the show was going and just before we went into pre-production, we got sick and we lost the biggest part of us,” Connie was quoted as saying.
She also added that it was important for them as a team to continue Shona’s legacy and in order to achieve that, it took long for them to finish the season.
Shona was the creator and one of the lead actors in season 1 of the popular Netflix series.
“…I think it was important just to observe the time to deal with what we had to deal with, to go through what we had to go through and to come back strong and really honour him in the best way possible,” she said.
Kings of Joburg season premieres on Netflix on Friday 27 January 2023.
