While guests of the State of The Nation (SONA) did their best to downplay their fashion finesse on the red carpet in light of the country’s economic standings – it was clear that a handful of parliamentary leaders – like Minister of Tourism Lindiwe Sisulu – were bound to stand out from the crowd.

From bright colours, bold prints, and unique accessories, many guests were influenced by African trends.

Other stylish looks on the SONA red carpet included….

Lindiwe Zulu – Minister of Social Development

Like her ministerial namesake, Lindiwe wore another stunning look – a three-piece white suit adorned with colourful trimmings, which she claimed was “inspired by the rainbow nation.”

The minister added a beaded headdress to complete the look, which interestingly was created by her daughter.

Nocawe Mafu – Deputy Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture

The deputy minister looked regal on the SONA red carpet in an emerald gown, which she accessorised with black and white trimmings.

Mandla Mandela

Taking a leaf out of his late grandfather’s book, Mandla wore an ethnic-inspired suit in a gorgeous blue Shweshwe print.
