India’s Harnaaz Sandhu crowned her successor – Miss United States R’Bonney Gabriel – at the end of the event.

Contestants from 84 countries and territories competed in this year’s pageant, including Mzansi’s reigning Miss SA, Ndavi Nokeri.

Nokeri finished in the Top 16 – but outside of the Top 5 – as reported by The South African website.

South Africa has a proud history at the Miss Universe pageant, with three winners in the 71 editions, including two in the last six years.

The three winners from South Africa have been Margaret Gardiner (1978), Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters (2017) and Zozibini Tunzi (2019).
