Fashion and the Durban July – now under the sponsorship of Hollywoodbets – go hand-in-hand.  After all, South Africa’s premier horse-racing event is all about opulence and extravagance.

But for invited designer Leigh Schubert, fashion is not just about looking good but feeling good too. The proudly South African designer sharing her best fashion advice for those attending the Hollywood Durban July this weekend…

FASHION TIPS FOR ATTENDING THE HOLLYWOODBETS  DURBAN JULY

If you’re going to be attending the Hollywoodbets Durban July on Saturday 2 July at the Greyville Racecourse, you will need to have a fashion plan in mind. This year’s theme is “Show me the honey” and is interpreted through blooming flowers, buzzing bees, and dripping honey!

Here are Leigh Schubert’s last-minute fashion tips for Durban July revelers…

  • Either wear sensible shoes – or have backups! Nothing stylish about a wobbly uncomfortable woman in stilettos!
  • Bring a wrap or jacket – it gets chilly when the sun goes down and being cold isn’t “hot”
  • Accessories or hats are what are the most striking and easy to spot. Get crafty, whip out your glue gun and combine some bits and bobs together. Use an Alice band, beanie, or old peak as a base… pick a colour theme and haul out your old costume jewellery, kids toys, silk flowers, or honey spoons, and create your masterpiece!
  • If you’re shopping for last-minute Durban July fashion, have a lookout on socials for any one-off pieces and accessories that boutiques and designers have sourced or made.  At the Leigh Schubert stores (Gateway and The Pavilion), we are releasing one per style as a preview of our unreleased summer collection – so customers can be sure that they will have no copycats at the course. We have also created some gorgeous fun hexagonal, bee-inspired futuristic sunglasses and earring pieces that we will be stocking just for the next few days in the lead-up to the event.
