In an ode to the great outdoors, Gucci and The North Face have teamed up in a new collaboration to celebrate the spirit of exploration, adventure, and self-discovery through travel.
Drawing inspiration from Alessandro Michele’s well-documented love of the 1970s, the new collection is based on The North Face’s original designs from the decade with bright colours and bold floral prints designed especially for the collaboration.
The North Face x Gucci collection features ready-to-wear outdoor pieces for men and women, including goose-feather down-padded coats, cosy fleeces, puffer jackets, sweatshirts, windbreakers, and jumpsuits.
There are also soft accessories like beanies and scarves, gender-neutral boots in three colours, a luggage range that includes backpacks and belt bags, and equipment like tents and sleeping bags.
The 1970s-inspired campaign was shot by Daniel Shea in the Alps and follows a group of hikers as they explore the picturesque mountains and rivers.
The campaign sees the hikers camping, kayaking, trekking, and enjoying the great outdoors to the soundtrack of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Bad Moon Rising.
The North Face is no stranger to collaborations and has partnered with brands such as Supreme, Junya Watanabe, and Maison Margiela in recent years, creating a comfortable niche for itself on the global fashion stage.
This is the first time that the current creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele, has partnered with another brand since joining Gucci in 2015.
“Gucci has always catered to the curious, presenting its clothes as tools that push the wearer into different territories, whether literal exploration of places and cultures or the more metaphorical adventures,” he says.
Both Gucci and The North Face are big on sustainability and carbon footprinting, and the collection does consider environmental impact in several ways.
ECONYL regenerated nylon can be found in the luggage, while archival fabrics have been used for certain pieces, as well as recyclable packaging.
The highly anticipated collaboration is set to hit select stores in China on 29 December, with worldwide releases scheduled in the first week of January.
