This year has been one of the books for Miss South Africa 2021, Lalela Mswane. The beauty queen has not had it easy even before she was crowned the country’s queen in October this year.

When people were not comparing her to Miss SA 2021, Shudufhadzo Musida, they were trolling her for going to the Miss Universe ceremony in Israel.

Despite all of the adversity and trials, she has kept those who use to support her through it all, inspired with her words of wisdom.

When people weren’t marvelling over her ability to share inspiring thoughts, they were shocked at how well she was able to hold herself together when it seemed like most people were against her.

Here are Lalela’s top 5 quotes for this year.

Lalela Mswane: Choosing faith over fear

“I decided to choose faith over fear and follow what felt right and good to my soul and I am filled with so much appreciation and gratitude for all the love and comfort I received in support of my pursuing something extremely important to me. Ngiyabonga South Africa.”

The warmth of SA

“It feels so amazing to be back home! I missed every single thing about South Africa. The food in particular and even our taxi drivers chronicles made me realise how lively and special our nation is ????

“Most importantly the warmth of our people and it is with that warmth that I was received this morning and words cannot express my gratitude for that. My heart is truly full. Thank you, South Africa.”

Creating our own tables

“As Miss SA 2021 I want to use the platform to not only shine a light on this issue, unemployment but also seek solutions to help its reduction. It is time we picked ourselves up, embraced our futures, and created our own tables as opposed to waiting for the allocation of seats.

“Mine is to focus on unemployment and economic empowerment.”

Societal beauty

“Young people suffer the greatest self-esteem and body image issues today, more than ever. They constantly subject themselves to comparison and always feel like they fall short of societal standards of beauty. This, I believe, is among the leading causes of bullying and depression in a lot of young people.”

It’s possible

“There is strength in unity. So much greatness can be achieved when we unite as women in support of each other. Another female’s success should inspire you and show you it is possible, even for you.

“Let us be a generation that exemplifies the notion ‘empowered women, empower women. Women possess everything within them to achieve anything. Our greatness is innate. We need to stop playing small and shrinking ourselves to fit in.”
