Kate Middleton is known for her affordable fashion choices and dazzled in a rented gown on the red carpet alongside Prince William at the recent Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Princess of Wales also gave a nod to her late mother-in-law with a emerald choker once worn by Princess Diana, Insider.com reports.

The princess looked beautiful in the off-the-shoulder dress from Solace London at the awards ceremony held at the MGM Music Hall for the second-annual event. The dress cost $91 (just over R1 500) and the neon-green colour suited the occasion perfectly. She paired the gown with a silver-and-emerald choker Princess Diana wore in 1993.

Insider reports that William launched the global-environmental initiative in 2020, citing President John F Kennedy’s 1962 “Moonshot” speech, which encouraged Americans to support moon exploration, as inspiration.

The couple rubbed shoulders with a star-studded guestlist that included guests like the actor Rami Malek and the professional soccer player David Beckham.

A NOD TO PRINCESS DIANA

According to The Court Jeweller, it was the first time that Kate had worn the piece of jewellery, known as Queen Mary’s Emerald Choker, which dates back to 1911.

It is reported that Diana wore the piece multiple times before her death in 1997. During a royal visit to Australia with then-Prince Charles, she was pictured wearing it as a headband.

A POWER COUPLE OF NOTE

The Prince of Wales also opted for a suit he has reportedly worn many times before. The heir to the British throne wore a blue-velvet suit.

Both the prince and princess handed out prizes during the award ceremony.

According to USA Today, the prince spoke with optimism about solving the world’s environmental issues as a collective:

“In the same way the space effort six decades ago created jobs, boosted economies, and provided hope, so too can the solutions borne of tonight’s Earthshot Prize winners.”
