Meet our new Miss South Africa! Five things to know about Lalela Mswane

Lalela Mswane was crowned Miss South Africa earlier this evening (16 October), here are five things to know about the 24-year-old.

Lalela Mswane was crowned Miss South Africa 2021 at the finale held at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town on Saturday 16 October. 

MISS SOUTH AFRICA 2021

Former Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida crowned her successor Lalela Mswane as Miss South Africa 2021. The two runners up were Moratwe Masima and Zimi Mabunzi. Lalela will represent South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant. While the two runners up will represent South Africa at Miss World and Miss Supranational.

Television personality Anele Mdoda and actor Nico Panagio hosted the Miss South Africa finale. While former Miss Universe’s Zozibini Tunzi (2019) and Catriona Gray (2018) were the backstage presenters.

So, what do we know about Miss South Africa 2021?

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT LALELA MSWANE

1. SHE IS A LAW GRADUATE 

Lalela is a 24-year-old Bachelor of Law (LLB) graduate at the University of Pretoria.

2. SHE IS FROM KWA-ZULU NATAL

Miss South Africa 2021 is from Richards Bay in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

3. SHE AIMS TO TACKLE UNEMPLOYMENT 

At the Miss South Africa finale, Lalela showed that she was passionate about tackling the issue of unemployment. She does this through her #BeReady campaign which aims to empower youth development. 

Her vision is to focus on developing alternatives to tertiary education so schools can focus on certain trades such as agriculture, manufacturing and others to prepare learners for these careers. 

“Not every learner qualifies to enter university. I believe that if you identify something that can become a passion before you leave school, you can identify opportunities and empower yourself in fields that normally would not have been considered,” she said to Glamour.

4. SHE IS A DANCER

According to her Instagram bio, Lalela is a dancer an from her Instagram posts, ballet seems to be her favourite!

5. SHE HAS A SECRET TALENT 

While she’s passionate about dancing, Lalela is also a good singer.

“I think I’m a good singer. My singing once made a mate of mine cry, good tears I assume –  otherwise that would be rather awkward – so I felt validated in my singing ability,” she said to the Sowetan.
