MISS UNIVERSE 2022 RUMOURED TO BE HELD IN FRANCE

According to pageant blog Sashes&Scripts photographer Itai Kadosh alleged that France will be the next country to host the Miss Universe pageant,  in a since-deleted Facebook post.

“Got up this morning from Paula’s phone call… presidency of the Miss Universe organisation for the last 30 years! ‘With me my darling. Put it in your diary that next year you will be together with my team in a contest that will be formed in Paris. That’s it, go back to sleep’ Miss Universe Paris 2022,” read the since-deleted Facebook post.

Clémence Botino represented France at the Miss Universe pageant this year and she was placed in the top 10.

France has won the pageant twice before,

  • Christiane Martel (1953)
  • Iris Mittenaere (2016)

If France is in fact hosting the Miss Universe pageant this year, the pageant is speculated to take place towards the end of the year. This is to avoid a clash with the Miss France pageant.

MISS SA LALELA MSWANE CROWNED SECOND RUNNER-UP

Miss Universe 2021 was marred by controversy. This is because the pageant was held in Israel this year. Israel has been described as an apartheid state due to their treatment of Palestinians. For this reason, Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane was asked to boycott the pageant.

The South African government also withdrew their support for Lalela. Lalela refused to boycott the pageant and actually went on to be crowned Miss Universe second runner-up.

“I decided to choose faith over fear and follow what felt right and good to my soul and I am filled with so much appreciation and gratitude for all the love and comfort I received in support of my pursuing something extremely important to me. Ngiyabonga South Africa,” wrote Lalela on Instagram.

Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe and Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferriera the first runner-up.
