Their interview may have lost out on an Emmy award, but the dress worn by Meghan Markle during her sit-down with Oprah Winfrey certainly didn’t.

The royal’s Giorgio Armani’s dress worn in the exclusive last year scooped an award for “dress of the year” by British publication Dazed.

‘DRESS OF THE YEAR’

The news was posted on Fashion Museum Bath’s posted on their Instagram account: It read: “A @giorgioarmani dress as worn by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex for the CBS television special Oprah with Meghan and Harry has been chosen by Dazed magazine’s Ibrahim Kamara and Gareth Wrighton as #DressOfTheYear 2021!”

The long, black silk dress adorned with lotus flower embroidery is from Giorgio Armani’s Spring/Summer 2022 Cruise Collection.

According to the museum, “the duchess chose a dress with a lotus flower design because of the flower’s symbolic association with rebirth, self-regeneration and spiritual enlightenment, and its ability to flourish despite seemingly challenging conditions”.

A replica of the dress was gifted to the fashion museum by Armani themselves.

MEGHAN TRENDS WITH ANOTHER FAB FROCK

Meanwhile, Meghan and her husband Prince Harry made a dazzling appearance at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards over the weekend.

The couple were awarded with the President’s Awards for their public service through their charity Archewell Foundation. This, after breaking away from the British royal family in 2020.

Previous winners of the award include Muhammad Ali, LeBron James and Rihanna amongst others.

But whilst the contents of her speech – in which she mentioned civil rights movements – made headlines, so did her dress.

The 40-year-old brunette wore a bespoke Christopher John Rogers dress worth £2,000 (R41 000). The bold cobalt blue dress featured an asymmetric neckline, body-contouring fit and thigh-high slit.

Meghan accessorised the look with diamond earrings, a Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet and a gold cuff that belonged to Princess Diana. She completed the look with a pair of metallic Aquazzura heels.
