A look at the crowning, tears of joy, dazzling dresses and the red carpet from the Miss SA finale at the GrandWest on Saturday 16 october.

24-year-old Lalela Mswane was crowned Miss South Africa 2021 at the finale held at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town on Saturday 16 October. 

LALELA MSWANE IS CROWNED MISS SA 2021

Shudufhadzo Musida (Miss South Africa 2020) crowned Lalela Mswane as the Miss South Africa last night (16 October). 25-year-old Moratwe Masima and 26-year-old Zimi Mabunzi were the two runners up. Lalela will represent South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant.

Moratwe and Zimi will represent South Africa at Miss World and Miss Supranational. It has not yet been announced which beauty queen would go to which pageant. 

Lalela receives an estimated R4 million in prizes and sponsorships. The prizes include,

  • R1 million in cash from the Miss South Africa organisation
  • The use of a fully furnished and serviced apartment at Central Square Sandton
  • A Mercedes Benz C-Class Sedan for her year of reign
  • A whole host of sponsorships

While the runners up each received R175 000.

THE STARS THAT ATTENDED MISS SA

Television personality Anele Mdoda and actor Nico Panagio hosted the Miss South Africa finale. Former Miss Universe’s Zozibini Tunzi (2019) and Catriona Gray (2018) were the backstage presenters. 

The star-studded judges included,

  • Reigning Miss Universe Andrea Meza
  • Former Miss Universe Pia Wurzbach (2015)
  • Radio personality Dineo Ranaka
  • Former Miss South Africa Dr Tamaryn Green (2018)
  • UCT vice-chancellor Mamokgethi Phakeng
  • South African actress Shannon Esra
  • Former Miss South Africa Basetsana Makgalemele (1994) 

Osama hitmaker Zakes Bantwini performed as the ladies modelled their swimsuits. Ndlovu Youth Choir — who took the US by storm at America’s Got Talent — also performed.
