Facebook announced on Tuesday 11 August 2020 that it would be unveiling a book for Women’s Month, titled Inspiring Changemakers: Lessons from Life and Business. The book pays homage to powerful South African icons.
The book details the careers, lives and lessons from 13 inspirational businesswomen and changemakers, and celebrates the positive impact these women have within society and their respective fields.
These span from entertainment, law and retail to beauty and food, and the life lessons contained within the pages will go on to inspire future leaders and changemakers in South Africa.
The book is made up of 13 chapters, each focusing on an “insightful and personal lesson” to resonate with and inspire future generations. Topics range from turning your passion into business, to how perceived weakness can be a strength.
Commenting on the book, Facebook Africa’s regional director, Nunu Ntshingila, said it was created “not only to hero the women making a positive impact, but to inspire future leaders”. Ntshingila adds:
“These women are making a difference in their communities, from starting social movements that change the world, through to businesses that positively impact their local communities. This Women’s Month, we continue to celebrate the achievements of all women, but also acknowledge the gender entrepreneurship gap and under-representation of women leaders”.
Ntshingila and the rest of the Facebook Africa team hopes that the stories and life lessons “inspire the next generation with possibilities that their futures hold”.
In addition to the 13 featured women, Facebook also turned to South African artists — Karabo Poppy Moletsane, Nontokozo Tshabalala and Zinhle Sithebe — for the commissioned artwork within the book.
They beautiful illustrate the stories by some of South Africa’s most powerful women, including Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Nomzamo Mbatha, Bonang Matheba, Mogau Seshoene (The Lazy Makoti), Prof Thuli Madonsela, and more.
A digital copy of Inspiring Changemakers: Lessons from Life and Business can be downloaded for free from the ISSUU site, however, a number of printed copies will be distributed to schools across six provinces in South Africa.
