The Mbere brothers and self-taught dance choreographer Junior King have partnered for the launch of Extreme Energy’s new non-alcoholic variant to bring fans their self-styled documentary ‘Stay on the Pulse’  – a 12-hour window into their day and what it takes to be fully connected and on top of their game.

We caught up with the kings of Amapiano to find out where the music is taking them and what it takes to stay on top of their game.

Q: Tell us about what’s happening right now for you on the music scene? What projects are you working on now? Anything exciting you can share with us that’s coming up?

A: We are just busy making music. We will be dropping a new EP sometime this year. We also have a lot of international features. Our mission statement this year is ‘Amapiano to the world.’ We are stopping at nothing to make sure we change the dance music scene globally.

Q: We love that Amapiano is part of your mix. Tell us how and why you moved into that space.  And where do you think Amapiano is going right now?

A: We were already into Kwaito before Amapiano blew up. We are one of the co-founders of New Age Kwaito.  We released our smash hit Slyza Tsotsi in January 2015. So when Amapiano came along it was easy for us to transition into that sound. We love it because it’s an eclectic dance space that differentiates the music scene of South Africa from the rest of the world. We believe Amapiano is going to make it into the international dance space.

Q: Looking from the outside in, you guys have really busy lives – almost non-stop.  What do you do to keep the energy up?

A: We try our best to go to the gym and to eat healthy meals. When our days are long and nights longer, we turn to our new favourite on-the-go drink, the Extreme Energy non-alc. There are plenty of occasions where we prefer not to drink alcohol, so it’s there for us during those moments.

Q: Why did you decide to partner with Extreme Energy to share a behind-the-scenes look into your lives?  Was it fun to shoot the video?

A: A lot of people don’t see the work that goes into building a brand like Major League and when the team approached us, we saw it as an opportunity to tell our story. Our lives are filled with non-stop action and we need to set the vibe and keep the energy going 24/7.  What people don’t see is the behind-the-scenes hustle it takes to make it happen. We love that the brand understands our lifestyle. The new Extreme Energy non-alcoholic drink is there for us when we choose not to drink and keep the party going – with the same apple energy taste we love.  Behind the scenes we just had so much fun shooting this video!

Fans can catch the video on the Extreme Energy non-alcoholic social media platforms on Thursday 15 July for an inside look at the action-filled, on-the-pulse lives of these top musicians and dancer – and how they keep the pace. It’s go-go-go from the moment they wake up and head for the gym and airport until they make their way to the recording studio to do what they really love – bringing the music, the dance and the vibe together in the studio.
