Earlier today, power giant Eskom announced that there will not be load shedding scheduled for the country’s cold winter months. According to Eskom, they have the capacity to supply the energy needed to get South Africans through winter and will be working to keep the power on.

While some expressed relief at the news, others remarked that they are definitely not getting their hopes up to be let down by the struggling power company.

Mzansi has no faith in Eskom’s no load shedding promises

For years now, Eskom has been battling to keep the lights on in South Africa and has subjected the country to long and painful hours of power outages or what we have come to know as “load shedding”.

Households, business establishments, and health facilities have all suffered as they desperately sought other ways to keep things going.

This is why, when Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha announced there would be no load shedding, many people expressed their disbelief.

Taking to social media after the power giant’s announcement a lot of South Africans remarked that they won’t be getting their hope up.

Here are some of the things locals had to say about Eskom’s no load shedding promise:

“I get that this is good for PR and public image, but have you guys considered that perhaps it would’ve been a good idea to lie and say that the grid was still under heavy strain…”

@devilsad021 said:

“The power stations experience frequent breakdowns so there will be load shedding!”

@hafeiloda said:

“The same as ‘I may have a long life unless I die’. Or ‘ my car will run smoothly unless it breaks down. I am glad I do not pay my TV licence for this #shit news. But we know Eskom and we know we cannot trust them.”
