Cassper and SA music lovers bid farewell to TicketPro Dome

The TicketPro Dome in the North of Johannesburg has hosted a number of artists both local and international over the years. Lovers of music were saddened by the announcement that the Dome is closing its doors. 


On Monday 19 July, TicketPro Dome announced its closure. RX Venue Management who managed the entertainment venue, mentioned they are selling the venue to a third party buyer. 

The Dome is closing its doors because they have been unable to make money due to the ban on public gatherings. 

“This is another devastating blow for the exhibitions, events and entertainment industry due to Covid-19. The ban on public gatherings has meant that during 2020 and now 2021, the Ticketpro Dome has been unable to operate.”

The dome opened in April 1998 with Diana Ross performing to a crowd of 150 000 people. 


Music lovers have attended a number of concerts at the dome its 22 years and took to Twitter to share some of the memories they made at the dome while seeing their favourite artists perform.

One Twitter user reminisced about singer-songwriter Lionel Richie’s performance at the Dome in 2016 posting an image of himself outside the Dome. 

Another Twitter user shared images they took of Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West at his concert in 2013. More users on the blue bird app remembered other incredible performances at the Dome looking back at performances by Lil Wayne and Travis Scott.


Rapper Cassper Nyovst was the first local artist to sell out the TicketPro Dome as part of his ‘Fill Up’ series. In his reaction to the news, the Baby Girl hitmaker revealed that he had plans to do one more show at the entertainment venue when the ban on public gatherings was lifted. 

The star rapper also revealed that he was wearing ‘Fill Up the Dome’ merchandise not knowing the Dome would close on the same day. 

“Such a sad sad day. I’m not okay man, our industry has lost so much in this pandemic. There will never be another one. Gone!”
