In this new age of COVID where social distancing is the norm, the hospitality and entertainment industries are having to come up with innovative ways of allowing people to gather to eat, drink, and be entertained.

The Vertical Theatre Group has unveiled a new concept for socially-distanced entertainment that could be used for all types of live events, ranging from theatre and festivals to global artist tours, circuses, and televised events.

Founded by London and Hong Kong-based  entertainment architects Stufish, the Vertical Theatre Group is made up of theatre directors and producers all wanting to give a much-needed boost to the struggling live entertainment industry.

Ric Lipson, partner at Stufish, told Lonely Planet that they are devoted to the vital importance of arts and culture and are excited to build a new vision for the future of live entertainment.

“We are devoted to the vital importance of arts and culture. We believe they are an essential part of human experience, of what makes us who we are. We are very excited to be able to bring this innovative new venue offering to the live entertainment world at this pivotal moment for the future of the arts.”

Innovative, tour-able, free-standing venue

Designed to help guarantee the new future of live entertainment, the Vertical Theatre is a unique, commercially viable performance space that features a free-standing tour-able structure with optional open sides to allow for optimum airflow and natural ventilation and a roof to protect the audience and stage from the elements.

The theatre modular in size and can accommodate between 1200 and 2400 people, depending on social distancing rules. The audience sits in balconies that can house groups of between four and 12 people or designated ‘social bubbles,’ which are separated by clear panels.

Each audience member enjoys a unique VIP experience with an up-close view of the performance space and access to innovative food and beverage facilities. The building has the capability to include a built-in global streaming capacity and has been designed to be fully adaptable for when Covid-19 restrictions are just a memory.

Global leaders in entertainment design

Stufish Entertainment Architects are no strangers when it comes to designing world-leading live entertainment venues and has been the brains behind the designs of venues for world-renowned artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Elton John, Rolling Stones, U2, and Queen. They have also designed several permanent theatres in China.
