Meet Mzansi’s three most-streamed female artists on Apple Music [watch]

Apple Music applauds these three musos for being the most-streamed female artists. Say hello to Elaine, Shekhinah and Simmy.

Most fans connect with their favourite artists through streaming. South Africa has a range of streaming services and one of Mzansi’s top streaming services Apple Music, has named the top three female artists. Here is an inside look at Apple Music’s most-streamed female South African artists announced by Sony Music Africa on 2 August.

1. ELAINE

Ndivuwho Mukheli popularly known as Elaine, took the South African R&B scene by storm in 2019 with the release of her EP Elements. The 22-year-old was juggling both her law degree at Wits University and her music career, and has become an international R&B sensation. 

Elaine’s debut EP Elements, is loved by R&B lovers all over the world and has lead her to become the first most-streamed female artist in the country.

Stand out tracks from Elements include, Sama-nominated You’re The One, Risky and When We’re Alone

Elaine is now signed to international record label Columbia Records, that boasts incredible talents including Beyoncé, Harry Styles, and Lil Nas X. 

She released her new single Right Now on 12 May and fans can’t wait to see what Elaine has in store for them soon. 

2. SHEKHINAH

South Africa first met Shekhinah Donnell on the Idols SA stage. In 2012 on season 8 of the show, Shekhinah made the Top 6. Shekhinah is the second most-streamed female on Apple Music.

Her music has been exceptional over the years and her debut album Rose Gold, was a bright and bold step in the right direction for her career.

 The album earned her album of the year, newcomer of the year and female artist of the year, at the Samas in 2018.

The 26-year-old musician released her latest album Trouble in Paradise on 7 May and fans have been gushing over the release since. The 12-track album features Tides and Fixate featuring Bey T as its lead singles. 

3. SIMMY

Simphiwe Nhlangulela, aka Simmy, knows exactly how to light up a stage with her infectious personality and bold stage presence.

Interestingly enough, the 25-year-old auditioned for Idols SA and SA’s Got Talent but was turned down by both shows. 

She is popularly known for her collaborations with Sun-El Musician, Ntabe Ezikude, Sonini and Ubala

Simmy released her sophomore album Tugela Fairy (Made of Stars) in 2020 and tells her story through hints of R&B, maskandi, mbaqanga and gospel.
