Legally Blonde was certainly one of THE movies of the 2000s. Led by Reese Witherspoon, the feel-good comedy turns 20 this year.

The film ended with Witherspoon as Elle Woods delivering a powerful graduation speech to her 2004 Harvard Law class. According to one of the movie’s actresses there should’ve been a different ending to the movie, but Legally Blonde‘s writers say they know nothing about it.

THE ‘ALTERNATIVE’ ENDING

According to Legally Blonde actress Jessica Cauffiel who played Margot (Elle’s best friend), the film was supposed to have a different ending where Elle and her former arch-rival Vivian (played by Selma Blair) got together romantically.

She told the New York Times that the first ending had the two women drinking margaritas and holding hands.

This left fans excited at the possibilities of a queer romance in a classic 2000s movie.

SORRY, NOT SORRY

Legally Blonde’s co-writer Karen McCullah broke fans’ hearts responding to a tweet about the queer romance on Twitter writing, “This is not true”.

When the fan posted the New York Time article as her source and asked McCullah what her source was she firmly responded,

“I wrote the movie. I’m in the picture you just posted. The actress who you quoted was incorrect.”

The movie’s other writer Kristen Smith seconded McCullah’s statement saying that she wished it was true because Elle and Vivian would’ve made a great couple.

LEGALLY BLONDE’ 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Reese Witherspoon celebrated the 20th anniversary of the movie by posting a throwback photo from behind-the-scenes saying time flies when you’re using legal jargon in your everyday life!

“But truly… playing Elle Woods was the role of a life time and I’m so honored to have been a part of sharing her story with you all. Every meme, graduation cap, musical number, halloween costume and bend & snap has brought me so much JOY over these past two decades!”
