Local singer, songwriter, rapper and producer Kris Black’s Touch the Sky is a dance pop banger projecting a true willingness to connect and love.

Kris (real name Kabelo Tswai) — who made his debut with his independent EP, titled FAIRYTALES II at the beginning of October 2020 — had the following to say about Touch the Sky:

“In the beginning of most relationships there’s some doubt in what the two of you are and where everything is going. This record is that ‘f*ck it’ feeling you get when you ready to fully commit yourself. That’s why the first line is ‘I’m ready to touch the sky with you’ in aim to forget all the doubts and the fear holding you back into make this big decision.”

Fame is about?

Fame, if worked, right means money and money means helping out the people around me and where I come from.

Retirement will happen when?

I’m only starting so I’m not thinking that far.

What does music mean to you?

Music means expression and emotion. 

My music is about?

My music is about my 20s and love, the ups and mostly the downs that I’m constantly facing. It’as a rollercoaster, but I wouldn’t change it for anything because I really want to see where it ends.

Where do you go for inspiration to create?

I don’t have a specific place; just hope my laptop or a phone is near because inspiration comes to me in random moments. I could be washing dishes or even a watching something on YouTube, completely unrelated to music, and an idea hit.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your work?

When the record starts to sound like a song, when everything is gelling: the words are right, the melody is right. I always start celebrating. That’s like my dopamine hit.

The song you must do in every show?

Have I Failed You?

Any funny moments on stage?

Forgot the words to a song and mumbled it out. I do this a lot and I don’t know if it’s funny anymore.

My heroes?

A lot. I could fill a page. because they all bring something different, so I just have bits here and there

Wiz Khalifa. He’s tall and I think I’m tall, and I could rock most of his looks

Which living person do you admire most and why?

I have three: Lil Wayne, Ben Howard and Drake. DUDES DO NOT MISS! Like yearly I have their records in my playlists.

Rum and Coke.

Dream gig to do?

Rocking the Daisies and Rolling Loud Miami.

What makes you stand out?

I don’t know, I think that’as a people thing to decide.

Any villain. They always have the coolest shit in the movies.

My laptop crashing while creating.

My biggest is “failed potential”.

Making something new.

Slow things down and play songs slower. 

The best life lesson you have been taught?

“You can’t please everyone, we like different things for different reasons” and “who cares what they say”.

Do you get worked up while watching a sports game on TV?

I get crazy when watching anything live. 

Where would you like to be right now?

Antigua, Jason, my friend who is from there, says it’s amazing.
